How Do You Say When You Interrupt Someone and Forbid Him to Continue Talking

For me it's quite rude when someone interrupt while you're talking, it annoys me sometimes especially when the person is not really close to me, and I'm discussing very important thing. But when someone interrupt by just saying hi or hello then I don't mind, but participating or worse diverting the discussions gets into my head. What do you do when someone interrupt while you're talking? Do you tolerate that kind of behavior?

Ahaha if its a friend that I know who I am comfortable around, I start talking louder and talking over their voice. If its someone I should show respect to, I just stop talking and let them speak.

Oh, yeah if it's someone who's close to me like my siblings, parents, or close friends then I don't mind. I might keep on talking even if she/he interrupt me. Because I know the person. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

It depend on what we are talking at that time and the person interrupt for what things,if it is very urgent and important case i'm talking for,i will start him very angry, and then point out to the person that :"could you waiting a moment? tks",if the person have very emergency thing to talk me, i would be stop my talking and running away with the person.good luck and have a nice day!

Yeah, if it's really an urgent thing then I also give a consideration, but if it's just a story or something that's not important that really upset me a lot. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

• Philippines

Yeah, if it's really an emergency I don't mind I would likely want to listen and help. But for something that's absolutely nonsense or simple chitchat, gossip then I don't tolerate that. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Well I will politely ask them not to interrupt, to please wait till I have finished and I shall explain to them that it is very rude to interrupt when People are talking

Well you're right! having the ability to explain tactfully what the person did was wrong is a nice approach in order to avoid misunderstanding. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Glare at that person??? But I think people who are daft and ill-mannered enough to not know the simplest of courtesies, no amount of glare would make them see any sense. Walking away from that place or 'we'll talk about this later'…seems the only way out. Another of my pet peeves is when you are talking to somebody and another person will come and just stand…not talking, not interrupting but looking very much forlorn and waiting to be invited to the conversation!

You're right, sometimes the best thing to do is to leave that person and let her/him speak because that person absolutely don't care whatever you say or do. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

I think it's incredibly rude when people do that & it makes me literally want to strangle them sometimes! :( Really, I have this one friend in particular that would win a meddlesome for the most amount of interruptions! Seriously, she's that rude! I don't know how many times I've had to tell her that I'm talking pls don't interrupt, but she's one of those people that talk a mile a minute, are really loud attention hogs trying to be the life of a party. I've told her sooo many times and it still doesn't stop. I've told her how I feel completely disrespected by her and it still continues. I really think that she has Attention deficit disorder and may not be aware of it, because really she's one of those people that are constantly switching topics, forget what they say, talking too fast like they have verbal diarrhea or something. I really get a headache being around her too and I've also been trying to slowly "phase her" out of my life by seeing her less and less.

Oh that's really annoying kind of person. I do have a friend who's just like your friend. She interrupt and talk like she know them all. Who seem to never lost something to say. And you're right I think those kind of person just need attention. It's kinda pity sometimes for them, as they are not aware of their problem. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

That happens to me a lot. Every time I'm trying to say something either get walked away from or interrupted and people talk all over top of me. Then still they have the gall to say stuff like"You're so shy. Why don't you ever talk?" One time I have gotten fed up and said. "Hey I was talking here! You can wait your turn"

• Philippines

12 Nov 09

LOL, You did right! I never had the courage say those words. Sometimes when I'm fed up I just try to make excuses for me to leave, because I scared to say things that I might regret. I just wish I could do the same thing as you did. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Well good for you that you'd able to get back into your own discussion. You don't get upset, you must have some pack of patience. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

If that person is not one of the persons I'm talking to with in the group discussion, well, it is annoying, if he/she just barge in. However, even if when I'm interrupted in a polite and civilized manner like saying excuse me first before voicing out your thoughts, then ,I'd be fine with it.:-)

I think it definitely is rude behavior. If someone did that to me, I'd keep quiet or I'd politely say: "Can you please hold for a minute while I finish my conversation?" That doesn't always work because the person with no manners usually gets peeved. If it were a child it would be easier to remind him/her but adults usually get more defensive. I do tolerate it sometimes because I obviously cannot call out every single person that does it to me. It's annoying but sometimes you have to look the other way.

• Philippines

12 Nov 09

Yeah, you're right. It's harder when you deal it with adults compare to kids. Children do understand while tend to be more defensive and take it negatively against you. It really annoys me a lot, though as much as possible I tried to be civil and give way. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Generally i dont get angry. But sometimes i react to this type of situations. Specially while in a serious conversations, if anyone interrupts, i give a sudden look at him or her. This look gives him or her the impression that i have not like the matter. Only this much Thank you.

Yeah, it could be way of body language or expression that show, you don't like what the person did to you. But sometimes there are those kind of people who simply ignore you, those type of person who's quite insensitive. Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Hi careguarden! I do not like people who do not have manners. I have experienced this several times. But of course, it is but proper to tell that person properly. If not, I would probably just signal that person to wait until I am done talking. But if it happens over again, I would tell that person what he is doing wrong.

hi carequaren hope i did not answer this earlier but we have a man here who always butts into my conversation with another person and it is not even on the subject we were talking about. I told him that is very rude. please do not interrupt like that again. It did not phase him so I think he had a few screws loose in his noggin.

It depends on who interrupts me and what I am talking about at the time and what the interrupter says. If I am in the middle of something important I will tell the interrupter I am in the middle of something. I have a friend who is a very nice and generous person but when I am talking to someone she will always come up and interrupt and if I don't answer she will tap me to let me know she is trying to say hello as if she is going to miss the opportunity to do so even though we are both going to be there for the evening. She never says excuse me she just walks up and starts talking and it is always about stuff no one cares about.

I dislike that kind of an attitude, because I myself will wait until their conversation stops. That was what my grandma always taught us.

It is really so annoying when you are talking and then someone interrupts you, especially if he or she will interrupts you because it was so obvious that he or she got bored about what you were saying, and will change the topic that is totally about her. I have a colleague like that, she always interrupts everybody if she didn't like the topic at all. It's because she is not a good listener. Sometimes, she will also cut us out and say we were wrong, and she will say what she thought was the right information, which is always false. We just ignore her, because every one knows her attitude, and it's better to ignore those kind of people who think they know everything, that they should always be the center of attention.
